Comedian Rob Haze made a hilarious appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon recently, and his stand-up routine had the audience in stitches. The Atlanta native, now living in Los Angeles, shared some relatable and laugh-out-loud anecdotes about the challenges of renting in the expensive city.
Haze began by pointing out the stark differences between his living situation and that of his friends back in Atlanta. While his friends enjoy spacious houses with front and backyards, Haze humorously revealed that he only has a single room within another room. He jokingly described his room as being multiple rooms all at once—a kitchen, an office, a hallway, and even a foyer.
The comedian then comically touched upon the unspoken room that many people have in their houses, the one that nobody goes into. He mimicked the typical dialogue when visiting someone’s home and stumbling upon this mysterious room. Haze also poked fun at the rules some households have, like taking off shoes upon entering, leading to awkward encounters when someone has holes in their socks.
Living in Los Angeles, known for its high cost of living, Haze sarcastically remarked how easy it is compared to his time in New York. He hilariously recalled the basement he once shared with another comedian, where their only separation was a curtain. The comedian contrasted his “area” with his roommates’ actual rooms, showcasing the creativity he resorted to in order to make it in the comedy industry.
Haze also shared his fear of dogs and the challenges he faces when encountering them. He hilariously described their ability to sense his fear, often resulting in a playful game of “bite the finger.” Despite his fear, Haze revealed he’s working on overcoming it, even watching the Westminster Dog Show on TV as a form of exposure therapy. He playfully joked about the show’s extensive duration, which has been running since 1877, and the different types of Retrievers that don’t receive as much Hollywood attention.
The comedian couldn’t resist addressing the lack of diversity in the Air Bud movie franchise. Haze quipped about the movies always being set in all-white neighborhoods, where a dog exceeds everyone’s expectations in sports. He humorously proposed the idea of a sequel where a group of Black kids challenges Air Bud in an AAU tournament and skillfully outperforms the talented pup.
Towards the end of his set, Haze reminded the audience that humans are animals at heart, pointing out our primal instincts to engage in sexual behavior. Comparing our actions to the chirping of birds seeking a mate, he humorously reminded us that we should not forget our animal nature, even if we have laser hair removal and consider ourselves more evolved.
Rob Haze‘s stand-up routine on The Tonight Show was a riotous display of his comedic talent and ability to find humor in everyday experiences. With his wit and charm, Haze entertained the audience with his unique perspective on living in Los Angeles, his fear of dogs, and the hilarious scenarios that arise from our animal instincts.
