Welcome ladies and gentlemen around the world! Here in the United States, it’s bitter cold, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying entertaining talk shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Hosted by the lively and talented Stephen Colbert, this talk show never fails to bring the laughs and keep us engaged.
In a recent episode, Colbert wasted no time addressing the controversial topic of pardoning the January 6 rioters. He didn’t hold back in calling out Donald Trump for his actions, which included pardoning 1,500 of the rioters, some of whom committed serious felonies, such as assaulting police officers with deadly weapons. It seems that Trump’s decision wasn’t popular among Americans, as a new poll revealed that only two out of ten Americans support these pardons. To put that in perspective, it’s just one point higher than the Rotten Tomatoes score for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”!
Interestingly, the Republican members of Congress are avoiding discussing this issue. When a reporter asked Speaker Mike Johnson about the pardons, he replied, “It’s not my place.” Wait, isn’t the House of Representatives literally his place? Apparently not in this case! Another frustrating act of cowardice came from Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, who claimed that he hadn’t seen the video footage of the assault on police officers. Well, Senator, if you haven’t seen it, does that mean it didn’t happen?
It’s evident that Trump either doesn’t know or doesn’t care about the repercussions of his actions. Despite pledging to review each January 6 case and not pardon violent offenders, Trump released them all, claiming that the case-by-case review was too onerous and time-consuming. Clearly, time wasn’t an issue when it came to pardoning these individuals, but I guess it was a problem when it came to following through on his promises.
To top it all off, the Trump administration is even considering inviting some of the January 6 convicts to the White House for a visit. Who knew that committing crimes against democracy could earn you a prominent place in the president’s abode? It’s a day of love and peace, but it seems like Trump and his team haven’t received the memo.
Amidst all the political chaos, the National Cathedral’s Bishop Reverend Mariann Budde spoke up courageously during a sermon attended by Trump and his entourage. She pleaded with the president to have mercy on the people of the country who are scared, referring to the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, and blue-collar workers. It’s no secret that Trump isn’t one to handle sermons gracefully, and this was no exception. He was visibly uncomfortable, forced to listen without the ability to clap back. Oh, how the tables have turned!
It’s not just the political sphere that has been making waves recently. Trump’s pick for the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, is facing new allegations that will make Republicans squirm even more. Hegseth, known for his role as a co-host on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” has been accused of alcohol abuse and sexual assault. These claims come from his former sister-in-law in a sworn affidavit, detailing instances of verbal and emotional abuse as well as shocking drinking episodes. According to the affidavit, Hegseth once got so drunk in his military uniform that he had to be dragged out of a strip club. And that’s not all – he’s apparently passed out in bars and even threw up on Christmas. It seems there’s nowhere Hegseth hasn’t left his mark, or should we say, his mess.
Despite all the chaos, Colbert managed to keep the show entertaining and light-hearted. He even took the time to answer kids’ questions in a segment that added a touch of innocence to the night. It’s moments like these that remind us why talk shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert are so popular – they provide a much-needed escape from the harsh realities of the world.
Tune in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for more hilarious moments, thought-provoking discussions, and of course, those catchy monologues that keep us coming back for more. Don’t miss out on the fun and excitement of this popular talk show that always delivers the entertainment we crave.
