In a recent episode of the talk show “Friday Night With Jonathan Ross,” host Jonathan Ross welcomed the hilarious and always busy James Corden as his first guest. As Corden made his entrance, he looked fabulous in a Wimbledon umpire’s coat, which he humorously claimed was his tennis umpire attire.
Ross congratulated Corden on his upcoming sketch show, “The Horn and Cordon Show,” which would be premiering on the BBC the following Tuesday. Corden expressed the difficulty of getting a sketch show just right, as there’s always a hit-and-miss aspect to it, even for his favorite sketch shows like “Big Train” and “The Fast Show.” However, with the help of director Kathy Burke and producer Ben Cavian, Corden was confident that they struck the right balance of humor.
Ross inquired about the process of selecting sketches and whether audience reaction influenced their decisions. Corden explained that they collaborated with Burke and Cavian to ensure the best sketches made it to the show. If Corden felt strongly about a sketch but it didn’t receive the same enthusiasm from the others, he would respect their judgment.
The conversation turned to the format of the show. Corden revealed that they opened each episode playing themselves before transitioning into location-based sketches performed in front of a live audience. The aim was to keep the show quick and fun, a formula Corden hoped would resonate with viewers.
Ross praised the comedy show’s entertainment value, remarking on the flesh on display in the first episode. Corden jokingly confirmed that viewers could expect some skin, as they listened to focus groups and gave the public what they wanted.
The topic shifted to Corden’s other ventures, particularly his character Smithy from “Gavin and Stacey.” Ross asked if there would be more episodes of the beloved show, to which Corden confirmed that he and Ruth Jones were writing the next series and planned to start shooting in the summer.
Despite his success in comedy, Corden also had a movie coming out soon called “Lesbian Vampire Killers.” When questioned about the film’s premise, he explained that he played a character named Fletch alongside his co-star Matt, who portrayed Jimmy. The duo found themselves in a cursed village where women turned into lesbian vampires. Corden and his team ensured the film was more about pure camping and fun rather than gratuitous content.
Towards the end of the interview, Corden presented a video clip of himself with the England squad, including the ever-iconic David Beckham. Corden revealed that writing the script for the video was nerve-wracking, as they didn’t know which players would show up. When Beckham made his entrance, Corden couldn’t help but express his awe at the footballer’s good looks, jokingly stating that Beckham was the most beautiful man he had ever seen.
The interview concluded with Ross mentioning Corden’s charity event, a comedy night in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust. It would be the first time Corden performed his show live, and he was excited about the opportunity.
As always, Corden left the audience entertained and looking forward to his upcoming projects, proving why he is one of the busiest and funniest men in the entertainment industry today.
