On a recent episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Aasif Mandvi, known for his role in the show Evil, shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story. Mandvi plays Ben Shakir, a tech specialist and atheist, who finds himself in some scary and bizarre situations.
During the interview, Mandvi explained that Evil is a show about three characters investigating paranormal activity, demonic possession, and miracles. The team is sent out by the Catholic Church to investigate these phenomena. Mandvi’s character, Ben, is a skeptic who doesn’t believe in any of it. However, he often finds himself in situations that challenge his beliefs.
Mandvi went on to share a particularly memorable scene from the show’s last season. He described a scene where Ben gets involved with a cult and ends up covered in goat blood. However, Mandvi reassured the audience that they didn’t actually use real goat blood. Instead, it was a “maple syrupy” substitute. Shooting the scene in the middle of the night in a cold field, Mandvi found himself covered in the sticky substance from head to toe.
“The worst part,” Mandvi joked, “was that it got in my underwear. You know, when you have maple syrup in your underwear, it’s just not a good feeling.” He added, “I mean, it depends on the day, am I right?”
James Corden chimed in, asking if Mandvi had ever had to do anything similar, like being covered in blood for a prolonged period. Mandvi recalled his time on American Horror Story, where he adopted his son from Ethiopia while filming. He shared that he had to go to Ethiopia twice during the shooting of the show, which coincided with a storyline involving his character being in a loony bin.
“So not only am I covered in blood and all kinds of other fluids, but my legs are spread eagle,” Mandvi joked, playfully trying to one-up Corden.
The conversation continued with some humorous banter between Corden, Mandvi, and the other guests on the show. The lighthearted atmosphere kept the audience entertained throughout the segment.
