In a recent episode of The Jonathan Ross Show, comedian Michael McIntyre revealed an amusing anecdote about his love for chocolate and his wife’s clever solution to control his indulgence.
During the show, McIntyre mentioned how the celebrities in “I’m a Celebrity” had been doing impressions of him, to which he admitted he found it surreal and amusing. He even joined in on the fun by impersonating himself, much to the delight of his son. McIntyre shared that it was one of the most entertaining moments of his life.
Aside from his comedic talents, McIntyre also discussed his new book, “Managing Expectations,” which showcases his love for swimming, the sea, and surfing. The book is a collection of stories that serve as a memoir of his life and experiences. McIntyre explained that he had the time to write during the lockdown period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking of lockdown, McIntyre hilariously confessed that he had a small chocolate addiction during that time. Whenever his family was in the kitchen, he couldn’t resist sneaking off to the treat area. McIntyre described how he would take a row of chocolate from a family-sized sharing bag and convince himself that it was just one row, only to succumb to another row as soon as he finished the first. This continuous process led McIntyre to indulge in over 60% of the chocolate.
Realizing that he was in trouble if his wife discovered his chocolate-eating habits, McIntyre decided to finish the entire bag and hide the evidence. He cleverly buried the chocolate wrappers deep in the trash, creating a domestic mystery to avoid detection. McIntyre humorously shared that he sometimes came across previous wrappers while burying the new ones and even resorted to using fruit rinds to disguise the lack of chocolate in the bin. However, his sneaky tactics were ultimately foiled when he discovered a locked petty cash box in the kitchen, filled with all the chocolate. His wife had put him on “choc-down” to control his intake.
McIntyre admitted feeling humiliated by the incident, but he understood the reasoning behind his wife’s actions, especially during a time when slowing the spread of the virus was essential. Despite the embarrassment, McIntyre’s storytelling had the audience laughing and applauding his hilarious chocolate-related misadventure.
