In a recent episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the charismatic host wasted no time diving into some hot-button topics, including the controversial figure of Donald Trump. With his trademark wit and humor, Colbert didn’t hold back in expressing his opinion on the former president.
Colbert started by discussing the numerous charges Trump is facing, pointing out the gravity of the situation. He stressed the importance of acknowledging the potential horror that our country could face if Trump and his followers were to regain power.
“Donald Trump is a fascist,” Colbert boldly claimed, backed by evidence gathered from Trump’s own words and actions. He highlighted Trump’s habit of comparing his political opponents to vermin and emphasized the dehumanizing nature of such language.
Drawing attention to the alarming parallels with dictators like Hitler and Mussolini, Colbert shed light on Trump’s disregard for democratic values and his undying loyalty from some of his supporters. The host also touched on Trump’s former Chief of Staff’s claim that the former president once said, “Hitler did a lot of good things.”
Colbert didn’t limit his criticism to Trump alone, though. He turned his attention to Trump advisor Stephen Miller’s recent immigration plan, which includes sweeping raids, mass deportations, and the establishment of large internment camps. Satirically commenting on Miller’s attempt to downplay the grim reality of these camps, Colbert humorously remarked that they may appear “professional,” but their existence still represents a troubling step toward totalitarianism.
The segment took a lighter turn when Colbert shifted focus to an incident that occurred during a recent Senate hearing. Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin engaged in a heated exchange with a witness, Teamsters President Sean O’Brien. The exchange grew so intense that it appeared the two might come to blows. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed, and it was Bernie Sanders who stepped in to defuse the situation.
Colbert wrapped up the show by reminding viewers to tune in for his upcoming guest, Rachel Maddow, and teasing the next segment, “Meanwhile.”
With his characteristic style and insightful commentary, Stephen Colbert continues to entertain audiences while fearlessly addressing crucial issues. His ability to infuse humor into complex subjects showcased his talent as a late-night talk show host and left the audience eagerly awaiting what he would tackle next.
