During an appearance on David Letterman‘s talk show, lead singer of the popular group Duran Duran, Simon Le Bon, shared a hilarious and embarrassing moment involving Princess Diana. Apparently, Duran Duran was Princess Diana‘s favorite musical group at the time. However, their performance at a show in London for the Prince’s Trust didn’t go so well.

Le Bon revealed that someone had accidentally knocked the bass guitar out of tune before the performance. As a result, they ended up playing an “abominable” version of their song “Save a Prayer” in the wrong key. Princess Diana attended the show but didn’t comment on the performance. She simply left after their set.

When asked if he had ever met Princess Diana, Le Bon mentioned that they had met a couple of times and described her and Prince Charles as a good couple who did a very good job dealing with the pressures of meeting thousands of people every year. Le Bon shared that they talked about music, her height, and other casual topics during their encounters.

Apart from his music career, Le Bon is also an avid sailor. He mentioned leaving for a race halfway around the world, specifically the second and last legs of the Wiip Bread Round the World Race. He would be part of the crew on a racing Maxi sailboat. Le Bon humorously joked that his task would be taking care of the washing up. He admitted to having been interested in sailing since he was 9 years old and considered this race to be the biggest and most significant one.

During the interview, Letterman also brought up a rumor he heard about the group having a nickname for Le Bon, “Lardo.” Le Bon dismissed it as complete fabrication, revealing that he had asked the other band members about it too, and they denied ever calling him that.

Addressing the rumor of Duran Duran breaking up, Le Bon strongly clarified that there was no truth to it. He emphasized that Duran Duran was his bread and butter, and if they were planning to break up, they would have made a statement by now. While members of the band were involved in side projects like Power Station and Arcadia, Le Bon assured fans that Duran Duran would eventually come back together.

Le Bon also discussed his experience participating in Live Aid, expressing pride in contributing to the cause of raising money for starving people. He emphasized the importance of not just giving during big events but consistently being aware of the ongoing issue and providing support.

In conclusion, Simon Le Bon provided a lively and engaging interview on David Letterman‘s talk show. From amusing stories about Princess Diana to his passion for sailing and dedication to charitable causes, Le Bon showcased his charismatic and entertaining personality.
