In a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley made headlines for fumbling a question about the cause of the United States Civil War. As the front runner for first loser in the upcoming Iowa caucus, Governor Haley’s campaign was gaining momentum until this unfortunate slip-up.

When asked about the cause of the Civil War from 1861, Governor Haley struggled to provide a clear and concise answer. She stated, “I think the cause of the Civil War was basically how government was going to run, the freedoms, and what people could and couldn’t do.” However, the correct answer, as Colbert pointed out, was slavery. This unexpected gaffe left many questioning Governor Haley’s understanding of history.

Governor Haley attempted to walk back her comments in an Iowa Town Hall, admitting that she should have mentioned slavery right from the start. She explained that growing up in South Carolina, slavery was a well-talked-about topic, and she had black friends. However, her opinion on what caused the Civil War did not sit well with them.

As expected, President Donald Trump saw this as an opportunity to criticize Governor Haley and make himself look slightly less terrible. He mentioned that she did not use the word slavery to answer the question about the Civil War, asserting that it was the obvious answer. Trump also took the chance to mock Haley’s attempt to clarify her initial response.

Not stopping there, Trump accused Haley of being in the pocket of open borders establishment donors throughout her entire career. He labeled her as a globalist, contrasting his own beliefs. With his usual sense of humor, Trump made a misogynistic remark, claiming to be a misogynist who loves a good massage.

During his time in Iowa, Trump demonstrated his ability to pander to the three things Ians love the most: corn, Jesus, and corn. He amused the crowd by making jokes about corn and Jesus. Trump’s skillful pandering to evangelicals in Iowa is one of his strategies to secure victory in the upcoming caucuses.

However, the talk of the town was not only about Trump’s attacks on Haley but also his remarks about the Civil War. Trump expressed his fascination with the war and called it both horrible and fascinating. He even suggested that negotiation could have prevented the war, presenting a rather absurd and unrealistic scenario.

Moving on to another topic, an Alaska Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing after a window blew out at 16,000 ft. It’s worth noting that the aircraft involved was a Boeing 737 Max 9, which belonged to the same line as the planes involved in previous crashes. This incident raised concerns about the safety of Boeing aircraft, whose rapid production has resulted in various problems.

Due to these growing issues, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) decided to ground all Boeing Max NES until their safety could be ensured. Loose bolts found during inspections have been among the problems discovered, raising further questions about the aircraft’s integrity.
