John Cena and Dua Lipa might just be the dynamic duo we never knew we needed. During their recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Cena hinted at the possibility of a buddy cop movie starring himself and the pop star.
Host Stephen Colbert wasted no time in asking about their friendship, and Cena confessed that he would like to think they are friends. He revealed that he and Lipa worked on two movies this year, “Argy” and “Barbie,” and in the process, they grew closer. Cena admitted to feeling nervous during the filming of “Argy,” and Lipa expressed her nerves as well. But Cena found comfort in working alongside two incredibly beautiful people, Henry Cavill and Lipa herself.
It seems that the chemistry they developed on set has sparked the idea of a John Cena–Dua Lipa collaboration in the form of a buddy cop movie. When Colbert brought up the possibility, Cena seemed excited about the concept. The show’s graphics team even put together a mock poster, featuring Cena and Lipa in a movie titled “Beauty and the Brawn.”
Colbert questioned whether Cena and Lipa had ever appeared in movies together before, to which Cena replied, “No, but we’ll definitely workshop it.” He assured the audience that they would keep them updated on any future projects involving the two stars.
Aside from his potential movie with Lipa, Cena also shared an intriguing detail about a pocket watch he always carries. The watch, a meaningful gift to Cena, holds a significant message for him. On the front, it bears a memento mori to remind him of his mortality and to stay humble. On the back, there is a paraphrased quote from Teddy Roosevelt: “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Cena explained that being in show business often leads to feelings of inadequacy, but his pocket watch serves as a reminder to be proud of who he is and to find joy in his own accomplishments.
