In a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert wasted no time in addressing former President Donald Trump‘s 78th birthday. Known to be sensitive about aging, Trump had previously stated that this particular birthday was one he wanted to ignore. Colbert cheekily wished him a happy birthday but quickly moved on, noting that Trump celebrated at a fundraiser in Florida with a towering cake that bore a striking resemblance to the storming of the Capitol on January 6th.
Colbert couldn’t help but joke about Trump’s favorite cake, wondering why they didn’t opt for “Fudgy the Whale” instead. Trump, ever the showman, turned the celebration into one of his political rallies, where he amusingly declared that he didn’t need anyone’s vote. Colbert playfully encouraged his viewers to take a “UD day Maga style” on November 5th, suggesting activities such as getting a manicure, having a couple’s massage, or even yelling at their kids’ teachers about literature.
The host also highlighted the irony of Trump being uncomfortable about turning 78, considering his entire campaign was centered around Joe Biden‘s age. If Trump had won the election at 78, he would have been the oldest president ever inaugurated. Colbert humorously imagined Trump being sworn in on a stack of adult diapers and a walk-in bathtub due to his advanced age.
Moving on to Trump’s attempts to shame Joe Biden by bringing up cognitive tests, Colbert couldn’t help but jest about Trump’s forgetfulness. Trump referenced his old White House doctor, Ronnie Jackson, in his speech, but Colbert slyly pointed out that it seemed like Trump was struggling to recall the doctor’s full name, as he questioned, “Does everyone know Ronnie Johnson?”
Colbert couldn’t resist mocking Trump’s habit of comparing himself to notorious figures, joking that Trump wanted to murder Mike Lindell, the MyPillow CEO, just like Al Capone would have. The host playfully imagined a scenario where Trump’s hair stayed forever young, but unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for his brain. Colbert highlighted Trump’s recent Capitol Hill meeting with Republican lawmakers, where his speech was described as rambling and akin to talking to a drunk uncle at a family reunion.
Colbert did sympathize with Trump’s pain, as the former president referred to Milwaukee, where the Republicans are planning to hold their nominating convention, as a “horrible city.” Colbert shared his personal experience, having made some jokes about Milwaukee during the Democratic Convention in 2020, and being met with anger from its residents. He playfully apologized for his remarks and declared his newfound love for Milwaukee, calling it the “Paris of Wisconsin.”
In his meeting with 80 CEOs, Trump further showcased his lack of preparedness by making promises without concrete plans. He suggested lowering the corporate tax rate to 20%, which left many CEOs shaking their heads. Colbert, always quick-witted, jokingly appreciated the appeal of a nice round number, but couldn’t help but mention that the number 8 has its own charm.
As the show wrapped up, Colbert announced his upcoming guests, Dr. Anthony Fauci and the star of Masters of the Air, Colin Turner. With his usual mix of wit and humor, Colbert left his audience entertained and eagerly anticipating future episodes of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
