Stand-up comedian James Acaster made a surprising announcement on his recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show. Acaster, known for his unique and hilarious style, revealed that he is officially stepping back from comedy and focusing on his music career.
The conversation started with Ross reminiscing about Acaster’s previous appearance on the show, where the comedian had come dressed as a party alligator or “party Gator.” Acaster confessed that he had worn the costume as part of a secret project at the time. However, now he unveiled that the party Gator has become his muse, representing his newfound seriousness in the music industry.
Acaster revealed that he has transformed himself into a serious musician and producer. He shared that he has a full album coming out in May, featuring various singers and a band consisting of 40 musicians. The album, according to Acaster, is a game-changer in the music industry, surpassing all other music (except for Nile Rodgers).
Throughout the interview, Acaster humorously emphasized that his transition to music is no joke. The party Gator persona and outfit serve as a symbol of his dedication to being taken seriously in the music world. He even admitted that he cannot sing and shared a funny anecdote about his failed attempt at singing lessons.
When asked about the public’s reaction to his party Gator appearance, Acaster explained that it’s been mostly positive. Children often wave at him when he’s out in the suit, and some even want photos and handshakes. However, not everyone is as enthusiastic, as Acaster humorously revealed that builders sometimes call him a “wanker.”
As the interview progressed, Acaster also touched on his experience participating in Stand Up To Cancer and his cooking skills. He hilariously shared that he used to be the “mash King” in the kitchen, revealing the secret to perfect mashed potatoes – loads of cream, cheese, pepper, and butter.
Towards the end, Ross brought up the rumors that Acaster was being considered as a new host for The Great British Bake Off. However, Acaster dismissed the rumors, stating that after a traumatic experience on the show, it would not be a relaxing environment for him or the contestants.
In true Acaster fashion, the interview was filled with laughter and witty banter, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating his upcoming music release and curious about what the future holds for the comedian turned musician.
Stay tuned to The Jonathan Ross Show and watch out for James Acaster‘s highly anticipated album in May.
