In a recent episode of The Jonathan Ross Show, renowned magician Penn Jillette wowed the audience with his unique brand of magic. Joined by actress Rebel Wilson, their hilarious banter and mind-boggling tricks kept viewers entertained throughout the segment.
Penn kicked off their magical encounter by explaining that the key to successful magic lies in its stupidity. He believes that the human brain craves exciting and awe-inspiring experiences, so by presenting something incredibly silly, the audience is less likely to question the trick itself.
With a normal piece of rope in hand, Penn invited Rebel to examine it closely. As he began spinning the rope, the audience erupted in applause from different directions every time. Encouraging Rebel to participate, Penn demonstrated how she, too, could produce the same effect by spinning her tassels.
Now it was time for the magic trick. Penn assured Rebel that he had nothing hidden in his hands or sleeves. He proceeded to cut the rope into two pieces, making it clear that it had been thoroughly severed. However, when Rebel pulled on one end slowly, to everyone’s amazement, the rope magically reconnected.
But Penn wasn’t done yet. He revealed a smaller piece of rope and placed it in his hand. With a series of deft motions, he seemingly merged it with the first one. Then, he proceeded to cut the rope once again, seemingly separating the two pieces. However, to everyone’s surprise, the small piece vanished into thin air, leaving only the larger rope intact.
To add an extra touch of astonishment, Penn introduced the concept of “wled dust”, a magical substance that creates remarkable effects. He scattered some of the “wled dust” over the rope, and just like that, the severed ends perfectly rejoined.
The act concluded with Rebel picking a card from a deck, memorizing it, and placing it back. Penn, with some clever shuffling, managed to reveal her chosen card without any prior knowledge. The audience was left speechless once again.
Before bidding farewell, Penn mentioned his upcoming show, “Magic Goes Wrong,” at the Vaudeville Theatre in London. With its opening in December, theatergoers can anticipate an incredible and unforgettable experience.
Following Penn’s performance, Jonathan Ross engaged in a conversation about magic with Rebel Wilson. She reminisced about her 21st birthday at a casino but admitted she had never experienced any mind-boggling magic tricks involving “wol dust.” Penn happily informed her that this was just the beginning and teased that his show was not to be missed.
Throughout the segment, Penn Jillette and Rebel Wilson demonstrated a delightful chemistry, leaving the audience spellbound and eagerly anticipating more magic. Penn’s ability to combine humor and astonishment allowed him to create a truly unforgettable experience on The Jonathan Ross Show.
