In a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the talk show host dived into the chaotic world of the White House and the mysterious operations of Doge. Trump held his first cabinet meeting of his second presidency and it was quite the gathering. RFK Jr, Pete Heth, Shawn Duffy, Tulsi Gabbard, and Christy Gnome were all present, making it a who’s who of why them. As the commander-in-chief, Trump immediately made it clear who was in charge – Elon Musk.

Musk, who explained his job as “P’ing myself with humble tech support,” shed some light on the work the Doge team is doing. It’s almost as crazy as it sounds, with tech support calls involving frozen computers and firing 4,000 people over email. Colbert couldn’t help but make a witty remark, comparing Musk’s explanation to the frustrations we’ve all had with tech support.

But the intrigue doesn’t stop there. Despite court filings suggesting otherwise, the White House has continuously denied that Musk is in charge of Doge. After much speculation, the acting Doge administrator was revealed to be career government official Amy Gleon. However, she happened to be on vacation in Mexico at the time of the announcement, making it difficult for reporters to reach out and talk to her about Doge.

The revelation of Gleon’s position as the acting administrator of Doge led Colbert to sarcastically comment on the White House’s lack of transparency. He quipped, “Don’t worry, we totally have a Doge administrator and she’s great, but she’s in Mexico right now, and you can’t talk to her because her dog ate her phone, and you can’t talk to her dog because the dog only speaks Spanish.”

Colbert then shifted focus to the importance of a free and fair press in holding the chaotic administration accountable. He highlighted Trump’s disdain for the press and his recent ban of the Associated Press (AP) from the Oval Office and Air Force One. Although the AP took the White House to court, a judge rejected their plea to restore their access. In response, the White House put up banners that read “Victory Go of America” – a humble display of triumph.

With the White House gaining control over which outlets cover presidential events, concerns have been raised about the erosion of press freedom. One White House correspondent exclaimed, “This move does not give the power back to the people. Who gives the power to the White House?” It seems that the freedom of the press is being threatened, and journalists are finding themselves cooked.

Amidst all the chaos, the Trump administration made another bold announcement – the introduction of Gold Card visas for rich foreigners. For a mere $5 million, wealthy individuals would be able to acquire these visas, much like a Green Card with extra privileges. Trump humorously described it as “Delta Comfort for our immigration system,” offering the rich a luxurious experience.

Although Trump’s Gold Card visa plan may sound enticing, concerns arise regarding the potential for abuse and its impact on national security. The existing EB-5 program already allows wealthy individuals to acquire green cards by investing in US businesses. Trump’s plan could attract not only entrepreneurs but also potentially undesirables seeking to exploit loopholes.

As Colbert concluded his segment, he couldn’t help but make a few hilarious references, imagining Russian oligarchs with Gold Cards and pointing out the absurdity of the Trump administration’s moves. With everything happening in the White House, it’s clear that the press plays a crucial role in holding the administration accountable. However, as Colbert quipped, the journalists may already be cooked – falling victim to Trump’s tactics.
