On a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert wasted no time in making biting remarks about the Trump presidency. As the 100th day of Trump’s presidency came around, Colbert quipped that it marked the day when FDR set the standard for presidential productivity back in 1933, and Trump is well on his way to bringing back “polio”. According to a new poll, only 23% of Americans would give Trump an A, while a whopping 45% would give him an F. Even the usually conservative Wall Street Journal joined in the criticism, saying that Trump goes “way too far” even with popular policies.

But it’s not just in the US that Trump is facing opposition. The Canadian people, known for their love of hockey and politeness, have given him their lowest letter grade, a “zed”. In fact, they elected Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney, who ran on an anti-Trump platform. Colbert didn’t miss the opportunity to make some lighthearted jokes about Canada’s national pastime being “barf fights on ice”. With Carney’s victory, Canadians rejected his Trumpier opponent, Pierre Palev, much to Trump’s relief, as Colbert pointed out that Trump would struggle to even say Palev’s name.

In other news, Trump recently hosted the Philadelphia Eagles, the Super Bowl champions, at the White House. However, less than half of the team’s roster attended the event, leaving Trump a bit embarrassed. Colbert quipped that it reminded him of the iconic commercial from the 70s, when people would say, “So, moving overseas…”. But it wasn’t just the Eagles who faced some criticism. Defense Secretary Pete Hgse found himself in hot water when he shared specific attack details on non-secure apps, including one chat that involved his wife and brother. Former Pentagon officials have called for Hgse to step down, but he appeared on Fox News to defend himself, stating that he’s not here to play the game like other politicians. Colbert couldn’t resist making a joke about Hgse’s “real job” being to yell about stuff on TV, as it was revealed that a makeup studio was installed in the Pentagon.

Lastly, Colbert couldn’t help but poke fun at Trump’s Secretary of the Navy, John Failen. Failen made a couple of social media posts about visiting the Pearl Harbor memorial, but mistakenly said it was to honor those who died on June 7th, 1941, instead of the actual date, December 7th, 1941. Colbert teased Failen, joking that perhaps it was a typo or an autocorrect error, and questioned his knowledge of 9/11.

As always, Colbert’s jokes and humorous commentary provided an entertaining and lively take on the latest news and happenings in politics and beyond.
