In a recent episode of the popular talk show, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, Anjelica Huston joined Ross to discuss her latest endeavors and reminisce about some interesting encounters from her past.
Huston, looking fabulous as always, revealed that she was currently involved in a charity tea party for the children of Peckham, organized by the NSPCC. This event, taking place at the Roald Dahl Museum, was close to her heart as she had a great fondness for the famous author.
Ross, in his characteristic witty manner, asked Huston about her recent visit to Galway for a film festival, where she was honored with the “hooker” award. They both shared a laugh, realizing the unintentional innuendo, and engaged in a playful conversation about gynecology with the infamous Dame Edna.
The conversation then shifted to one of Huston’s most iconic roles in the film “The Witches.” Surprisingly, Huston mentioned that she actually enjoyed how she looked in the movie, despite the uncomfortable makeup and having to wear extensions on her hands for weeks. Huston shared an anecdote about her terrified nephews and nieces who were cowering from her during a photo session, but she managed to win them over with nice presents.
As the chat show continued, Ross brought up Huston’s upbringing and her encounters with legendary figures like Marlon Brando. It turns out that Brando had visited her house when she was just a child, as her father directed a film in which he wanted Brando to star. However, she recounted that there was a horrible fight between her father and Brando during the visit.
When asked about her level of criticality towards her own work, Huston revealed that she generally focused on how she looked in movies. Surprisingly, “The Witches” was one film where she thought she looked rather well. She jokingly mentioned that she liked receiving presents, just like the tortoiseshell ring Brando had given her during their encounter.
The conversation then delved into the kind of movies and directors Huston preferred. She expressed her admiration for authors who also direct their movies and mentioned Wes Anderson as a particular favorite. Huston praised Anderson’s precision and the unique worlds he creates in his films.
Ross also highlighted Huston’s collaborations with legendary actor Gene Hackman in Anderson’s movies. Huston shared an interesting behind-the-scenes story about accidentally causing Hackman to bleed while filming a scene. It exemplified the experimental nature of working with Anderson, where even a missing comma was cause for retakes.
Moving on from her film career, the discussion touched on Huston’s personal life. She revealed that she got married fairly late in life because she was waiting for the right person. Huston cheekily admitted to having a preference for “jumpy” men, lively and naughty individuals who don’t necessarily want to settle down. Ross playfully mentioned Jack Nicholson as the ultimate “jumpy” man, and Huston confirmed that they were still in touch and maintained a friendly relationship.
Towards the end of the talk show, Huston shared her other passion – gardening. She spoke about her farm and how gardening had taken over her life recently. Huston even mentioned making jams and jellies, which she adorably presented to friends and loved ones in Christmas baskets.
A lively and entertaining episode, Anjelica Huston charmed the audience with her stories and humor, leaving everyone eagerly awaiting her future projects.
