Hayley Williams recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she discussed her friendship with Taylor Swift and the influence Jimmy Fallon has had on her band, Paramore.
The conversation started with Jimmy congratulating Hayley on the release of her latest album, “This Is Why.” It’s been six years since Paramore last released an album, and Jimmy expressed his appreciation for the band coming on the show and performing. Hayley shared that the remix album, “Re: This Is Why,” is not your typical remix album. Paramore wanted to connect with bands that have inspired them and give them a chance to reinterpret the album. Some of the bands featured on the remix album include The Linda Lindas, Wet Leg, Romy from The xx, Remi Wolf, Bartees Strange, Panda Bear, and Zane Lowe.
Organizing musicians for the remix album was no easy feat, but Hayley managed to bring them all together. She also brought some swag from her tour, including a shirt that was popular among fans. The shirt featured her X-rays from the chiropractor, showcasing the toll years of headbanging have taken on her neck.
Hayley explained that during the band’s break, she experienced issues with her neck bones, specifically cervical vertebrae C-5 and C-6. She had a condition called military neck, which is caused by the erosion of the cervical vertebrae due to excessive headbanging. Hayley is now in physical therapy to strengthen her neck muscles so she can continue headbanging during performances.
The conversation then shifted to Hayley’s long-standing friendship with Taylor Swift. They both started their careers around the same time and met at a Grammy party. Taylor’s mom, Andrea, introduced them, recognizing that they were both young musicians in need of friends their own age. Hayley spoke highly of Nashville’s music community, emphasizing how everyone supports and helps each other.
To showcase their coolness, Hayley and Taylor have a habit of sticking their tongues out in every photo together. And as evidenced by their early photos, they were always trying to prove how cool they were. Jimmy couldn’t help but comment on their unique poses.
As the interview came to an end, Jimmy expressed his admiration for Hayley’s talent and suggested that she should make appearances on the show for each album release. He even proposed performing one of Hayley’s earliest influences together before going to commercial break. Hayley happily accepted the offer, and they performed a snippet of Jimmy’s comedy song, “Idiot Boyfriend,” much to the delight of the audience.
Hayley Williams‘s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was filled with lively conversation and nostalgic moments. Her friendship with Taylor Swift and the impact of Jimmy Fallon on Paramore made for an entertaining and engaging interview.
