During the interview, Colbert expressed his excitement about the film and mentioned that he had seen it twice already. He also praised the cast, which includes Ana Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, and Timothée Chalamet, among others. Villeneuve shared that he enjoys being present when audiences watch his films for the first time, as it is the culmination of the entire filmmaking process for him.

This is the second time Villeneuve has brought the world of “Dune” to the big screen, with the first installment released in 2021. Colbert asked if Villeneuve felt more freedom and latitude this time around, having already established the world and its rules in the previous film. Villeneuve likened it to playing in a sandbox, as the groundwork had already been laid out in the first part.

One of the standout aspects of “Dune” is the visual design, especially the mysterious and eerie planet called “Gedi Prime.” The director mentioned his love for the brutalist architecture and machines used by the villains, the Harkonnen. He also revealed that they shot certain scenes using infrared cameras to create a haunting black and white effect.

In addition to the stunning visuals, “Dune” features a unique language called “Fremen.” Villeneuve explained that linguist David Peterson developed the language, and the actors had to undergo training to become fluent in it. There was even a dialect coach on set to ensure accurate pronunciation. The dedication to creating a believable language impressed Villeneuve, although he admitted to being surprised when the dialect coach wanted to reshoot a scene just for correct pronunciation.

Colbert then asked Villeneuve about the possibility of a third installment. The director confirmed that there is a second book called “Dune Messiah” and expressed interest in adapting it to complete the story arc. He mentioned that it would make absolute sense for him to revisit the world of “Dune” one last time.

Fans of the franchise will undoubtedly be excited about the prospect of a “Dune” part three. For now, they can enjoy the release of “Dune” part two, which hit theaters recently.
