On a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert kicked off the show by congratulating his friend Jimmy Kimmel for his successful hosting of the Oscars. He also commended the film “Oppenheimer” for winning several awards, including Best Picture.

Colbert recapped some of the memorable moments from the Oscars, such as Ryan Gosling‘s singing, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito reuniting, and John Cena‘s presentation of Best Costume in the buff (though he clarified that Cena was actually wearing a skin-tone jumpsuit).

One of the strangest moments of the night was when Al Pacino announced the winner for Best Picture. Colbert jokingly commented on Pacino’s unique delivery, comparing it to ordering a sandwich at the deli counter. Despite the comedic moment, “Oppenheimer” took home the award.

Shifting gears to the upcoming general election, Colbert pointed out that there are now only two candidates left, Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who have contrasting messages. Biden’s message is to vote for him because Trump is terrible, while Trump’s message is to vote for him because he is terrible. Colbert then played a clip of Trump mocking Biden’s speech impediment, which he has had since childhood.

Colbert highlighted the irony of Trump criticizing Biden’s speaking ability, considering Trump’s own unconventional speaking style. He played another clip from Trump’s speech where he seemed to lose track of his own thought process. Colbert sarcastically remarked that being constantly distracted apparently makes someone smart, referring to his own dog’s ability to focus on food, squirrels, balls, and doorbells all at once.

Continuing the segment, Colbert mentioned recent interviews with former National Security adviser John Bolton and former Chief of Staff John Kelly, where they revealed Trump’s admiration for Hitler and modern-day dictators. Trump allegedly told Kelly that Hitler did some good things, specifically mentioning Hitler’s economic policies. However, Kelly had to remind Trump that Hitler’s military staff was not loyal to him and even attempted to assassinate him.

Colbert sarcastically questioned Trump’s understanding of history and democracy in light of his praise for dictators. He also brought up a recent scandal involving manipulated photos of Kate Middleton, which led to speculations about her well-being and her marriage to Prince William. Colbert humorously criticized the notion that the royal family would use Photoshop to cover up imperfections, quipping that the next revelation might be that the king isn’t even real.

In his usual satirical manner, Colbert mentioned a Pentagon report that found no evidence of alien visits or hidden spacecraft, which led him to jokingly conclude that aliens must have visited and the report was just a cover-up. He playfully alluded to the possibility of humans reverse-engineering advanced alien technology by pointing out the effectiveness of products like Soft Scrub.

Before wrapping up the segment, Colbert teased the upcoming guests on the show, Kristen Stewart and Tom Hollander, and then transitioned into a musical performance.
