In a recent appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, the legendary Carl Reiner delighted the audience with his wit and charm. The chat show host welcomed him back with great enthusiasm, as they had previously shared a memorable experience during his last visit. Ellen introduced a fun new tradition called “pass the hat,” in which the guest wears a wacky hat and passes it on to the next guest if it fits. Carl couldn’t resist wearing the hat, and it looked great on him, so he decided to keep it.
The conversation quickly turned to their previous encounter, during which Carl had showcased his talent for comedy. Ellen praised his ability to entertain and revealed that after his performance, she received numerous items related to dental hygiene, as Carl had mentioned a particular product. Grateful for the unexpected gift, she presented him with a box of toothpicks as a token of appreciation.
The conversation then shifted to Carl’s lovely wife, Estelle, who was in the audience. Ellen acknowledged their impressive 62 years of marriage, which was a cause for celebration. Carl shared a heartwarming story of their wedding on Christmas Eve in 1943, during the tumultuous times of World War II. He also mentioned that Estelle is a jazz singer and has recently released a new CD titled “Estelle Riner Sings Grown-Up Songs for Kids.” This album has been a hit with their grandchildren, who enjoy listening to jazz songs tailored for young ears.
Ellen expressed her interest in the CD and commended Carl and Estelle for their enduring marriage and successful careers. She then surprised Carl by announcing a phone call from Morgan, who had been trying to reach him. Morgan, calling in from Normal, Illinois, shared that she had difficulty connecting with Carl but was excited to speak to him and Ellen. They chatted briefly, and Ellen revealed that Morgan‘s exceptional work had earned her a special opportunity. She would be attending the Super Bowl with a field pass and a film crew, allowing her to report directly from the game. Morgan gladly accepted the invitation, expressing her excitement about the upcoming experience.
Before bidding farewell to Carl, Ellen reminded the audience to catch his latest film, Ocean’s 12, which was currently playing in theaters. The segment concluded with a promise to return after the break.
